John Locke Institute Essay Competition

  • The JLI Essay Competition invites students to explore a wide range of challenging and interesting questions beyond the confines of the school curriculum.

  • Candidates must be eighteen years old, or younger, on that date. (Candidates for the Junior Prize must be fourteen years old, or younger, on that date.)

  • There is a prize for the best essay in each category. The prize for each winner of a subject category, and the winner of the Junior category, is a scholarship worth US$2000 towards the cost of attending any John Locke Institute programme, and the essays will be published on the Institute's website.

    The candidate who submits the best essay overall will be awarded an honorary John Locke Institute Junior Fellowship, which comes with a US$10,000 scholarship to attend one or more of our summer schools and/or gap year courses.

  • Only candidates who registered before the registration deadline of Saturday, May 31, 2025 may enter this year's competition. You can register here.

    All entries must be submitted by 11.59 pm BST on the submission deadline: Monday, 30 June 2025. Candidates must be eighteen years old, or younger, on that date.

  • ChallengeUS is a nonpartisan, nonprofit scholarship competition hub founded on the belief that youth (as a group) and competition (as a medium) are the engines that drive progress.

  • Any student, residing in any country, currently enrolled in an accredited high school or college/university, is eligible to participate.

Coolidge Scholarship

  • The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study.

    • 2024-25 Coolidge Scholarship applicants must intend to enroll full-time at an accredited U.S. college or university as an undergraduate for the first time in fall 2026. That is to say, students in their junior year of high school, or the equivalent if home schooled, are eligible to apply. (Students who are currently high school juniors but take some courses at a local college are indeed eligible to apply for the Coolidge Scholarship.)

    • 2024-25 Coolidge Scholarship applicants must be citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States of America by the 2024-25 scholarship deadline.

    • 2024-25 Coolidge Scholarship applicants cannot be the immediate family member of any current employee, trustee, or significant donor to the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation or the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Fund. (Note: Significant donor is defined as one with lifetime giving in excess of $25,000).

  • Annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study. The Coolidge may be used by recipients at any accredited college or university in the United States.

    Although only a few students are named Coolidge Scholars each year, one hundred of the top Coolidge Scholarships applicants are named “Coolidge Senators.” Coolidge Senators are invited, all-expenses-paid, to participate in the Senators Summit that takes place each summer in Washington, D.C.

The Coolidge Foundation will cover the travel and lodging costs for finalists and one parent to attend Finalist Weekend.

Cameron Impact Scholarship

  • The Cameron Impact Scholarship is a four-year, full-tuition, impact-driven undergraduate scholarship awarded annually to 10-15 exceptional high school students who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, and academics.

  • Open to high school juniors who are U.S. citizens and have a minimum 3.7 GPA equivalent.

  • The Cameron Impact Scholarship covers the full tuition, fees, and books at any accredited U.S. based college or university that the recipient chooses to attend.

  • The early application deadline for the Cameron Impact Scholarship is May 21, 2025 at 12:00 pm PT (NOON). The regular application deadline is either when the scholarship reaches its capacity of 3,000 applications or September 3, 2025, whichever occurs first. The foundation typically reaches capacity well before the September deadline, so early application is recommended. 

Coca Cola Scholarship

  • The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school.

Jack Kent Cook Foundation Scholarship

HIR Academic Writing Contest

  • Participants in the contest submit a short-form article on a topic in international affairs. Each submission will be read and graded by the Harvard International Review.

  • High school student in the United States.

  • A number of contestants will be selected as finalists, who are invited to participate in a virtual HIR Defense Day. At the Defense Day, students will have to opportunity to give a 15-minute presentation and oral defense to Harvard International Review judges. Students will also be able to attend other special events related to international affairs.

  • There are three distinct submission cycles for the 2025 Contest.

Federal BAR Civics Essay Competition

  • Each year, the Federal Bar Association invites middle and high school students to address current topics in civics. Scholarships are awarded for first, second, and third place for grades 9-12.

  • Each year, the Federal Bar Association invites high school students to address current topics in civics. Scholarships are awarded for first, second, and third place in grades 9-12.

  • Scholarship prizes will be awarded for the following in each division (middle school and high school): First place, $1,500; Second place, $1,000; Third place, $500.

  • Students are provided a detailed prompt with summaries of applicable court cases to consider. The maximum essay length is 1,000 words.  Deadline is currently set for February 1, 2025.

Youth In Policy Essay Competition

  • The Institute for Youth in Policy International Essay Writing Contest is an opportunity for students to use their voice and writing ability in order to think critically about the state of politics in their country and declare the change they hope to see, all while competing for cash prizes and opportunities to get their writing published!

  • Any student, in any country, who is enrolled in an accredited high school or college/university at the time of submitting their essay is eligible to participate in the Institute for Youth in Policy International Essay Contest and compete for the prizes. Students taking academic gap years or semesters are also eligible. No current employees of the Institute for Youth in Policy, however, will be permitted to enter the contest.

BRI MyImpact Challenge

  • MyImpact Challenge is a civic engagement contest hosted by the Bill of Rights Institute. Our goal is simple: foster a robust understanding of citizenship and get students active in their communities now!

  • Submission is open to students ages 13-19 in all U.S. states, territories, and Armed Forces Schools Abroad.

  • Student service projects can win up to $10,000, with $40,000 in total prizes available to students and teachers. Every project that meets the entry guidelines will be rewarded with a digital Civic Achievement badge.

  • The contest is open until May 18, 2025, 11:59pm. All complete applications are judged and winners are awarded cash prizes!

JFK Profiles In Courage Essay Contest

  • The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation invites U.S. high school students to describe and analyze an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917, the year John F. Kennedy was born.

  • U.S. high school students

  • The winner receives a $10,000 cash award. If the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation holds the 2024 Profile in Courage Award event in person, the winner and her/his/their family will be invited to travel to Boston to accept her/his/their award in May 2024. Travel and lodging expenses will be paid for the trip to Boston for the winning student and her/his/their parents.

    Second-place winner receives $3,000.

    Five finalists receive $1,000 each.

    Ten semifinalists receive $100 each.

  • The Profile in Courage Essay Contest opens for submissions on September 1, 2024. The contest deadline is January 17, 2025.

Obama Foundation Voyager Scholarship

  • The Voyager Scholarship was created by the Obamas and Brian Chesky, Co-Founder and CEO of Airbnb to help shape such leaders.

  • The Voyager Scholarship is open to students entering their junior year of college at an accredited four-year college or university in the US, who have demonstrated a financial need, and who are US citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients.

  • Up to $50,000 in financial aid

    Students will receive up to $25,000 per year in “last dollar” financial aid for their junior and senior years of college. This financial aid should alleviate the burden of college debt so that students can afford to pursue a career in public service.

    Summer Voyage

    Students will receive a $10,000 stipend and free Airbnb housing to pursue a summer work-travel experience between their junior and senior year of college. The students will design their own Summer Voyage to gain exposure to new communities and experience in a chosen field.

    Fall Summit

    Students will be invited each fall to an annual summit to help define and inspire their public service journey.

    Network of leaders

    Throughout the program, students will be invited to an ongoing speaker series, giving them access to a network of leaders. This network of leaders will expose them to new areas of service and innovations happening in their fields. After graduation, they will join the Obama Foundation’s global community, providing them with Foundation resources and programming.

Reagan Foundation Scholarships

  • The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship offers college scholarships of up to $40,000 for high school seniors nationwide who showcase leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship.

  • Be current high school seniors attending high school within the United States, (including any U.S. territories or commonwealths), and graduating in winter 2022 or spring 2023. Homeschools applicants, and applicants living on a U.S. Armed Forces base and attending high school outside the U.S. are eligible.

Taco Bell Live Más Scholarship

  • The Live Más Scholarship is for students who are pursuing higher education, preparing for the workforce, or using their passion to ignite change in their communities and beyond. We believe in you – no matter where you are in your journey, whether just recognizing your strengths and developing your passion or bringing it to life and inspiring others to join you. 

    Submit a video (2 minutes or less in length) that answers the following questions:

    • What is your passion and how are you currently pursuing it or planning to pursue it?

    • How do you plan to use your passion to make your community, country, and/or world, etc. a better place?

    • What is your education plan (education program, college, or certificate/degree program) and how will it help you pursue your passion and create positive impact?

  • The Live Más Scholarship Program is open only to individuals who meet all of the following criteria:

    • Applicant must be a legal resident of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia (“D.C.”) located within the United States or D.C., or the dependent child of an active duty member of the U.S. military, who is at least 16 years of age and no older than 26 years of age

    • Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary educational program located in the United States or D.C. (including accredited two- and four-year colleges, universities, vocational-technical, and trade schools) and in good academic standing.

    • Applicant must be willing to work with the Taco Bell Foundation’s Scholarship Management Company throughout the application and award process.

  • The prize amounts come in the forms of US $5,000, $10,000, and $25,000 amounts, with applicants choosing between them.

    In 2025, the Taco Bell Foundation will be awarding up to $14 million in Live Más Scholarships, with up to $4 million being awarded through our program for Taco Bell restaurant employees.

  • There will be one application, selection and award period per year. Here are the dates:

Voice of Democracy Contest

  • Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy® audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay.  Each year, more than 26,400 ninth through 12th grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1.4 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program. 

  • The Voice of Democracy is open to students in grades 9-12 by the Oct. 31 deadline who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States, its territories and possessions; or dependents of U.S. military or civilian personnel in overseas schools. Although U.S. citizenship is not required, students must be lawful U.S. permanent residents or have applied for permanent residence (the application for which has not been denied) and intend to become a U.S. citizen at the earliest opportunity allowed by law. Foreign exchange students, students age 20 or over, GED or Adult Education Students are ineligible.

    What do I need to enter? Record your original 3-5 minute (+ or – 5 second max.) audio essay on a flash drive, or other electronic device. You will submit the recording, typed essay and this completed entry form. Provide these items to your school/group competition or VFW Post for judging. In addition you can submit your emailed entry form, essay, and audio file to the VFW Post upon approval. You must be the sole author of your essay. Inappropriate use of ChatGPT or or other AI tools is not allowed. The recording must be in your own voice and in English. Hearing/speech impaired students should email the Voice of Democracy National Office at youthscholarships@vfw.org for special instructions. No music, singing, poetry or sound effects are allowed. The body of the essay must not identify you in any way, (including, but not limited to your name, school, city, state, race or national origin) although the recording and typed essay should be labeled with your name, to show ownership

  • The national first place winner receives a $35,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$21,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins at least a scholarship of $1,000. Students interested in participating must submit their audio essay prepared on this year's theme, with a completed 2025-2026 entry form, to their local participating VFW Post.

The Gates Scholarship

  • The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to exceptional student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential.

  • To apply, students must be:

    • A high school senior

    • From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American

    • Pell-eligible

    • A US citizen, national, or permanent resident

    • In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) 

     Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.

    *For American Indian/Alaska Native, proof of tribal enrollment will be required. 

    An ideal candidate will have:

    • An outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class)

    • Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., as shown through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities)

    • Exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)

  • Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance* that is not already covered by other financial aid and the Student Aid Index, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university.

    *Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, room, board, books, and transportation, and may include other personal costs.

Ron Brown Scholar Program

  • The Ron Brown Scholarship honors the legacy of Ronald H. Brown through a selective scholarship program that advances higher education for community-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans.

    Recipients may use the renewable scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States. Ron Brown scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline. Since the Program’s inception in 1996, 683 students have been designated as Ron Brown Scholars.

  • Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for the Ron Brown Scholar Program provided you meet the following requirements:

    • Must be Black/African American.

    • Must excel academically.

    • Must exhibit exceptional leadership potential.

    • Must participate in community service activities.

    • Demonstrate financial need.

    • Be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.

    • Be a current high school senior at the time of your application. NOTE: Current college students are not eligible to apply.

    • Our Leaders Network connects Scholars, Captains, and Alumni with career development opportunities, mentorship, and a robust professional network.

  • RBSP competitively awards 20 four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 each year) to the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship – the four pillars of the late Ronald H. Brown’s mission to uplift people of all races, cultures and ethnicities – especially our disadvantaged youth.

  • Below is the timeline for interested applicants to plan the submission of their application to the Ron Brown Scholar Program (RBSP) as well as key dates when eligible applicants will be notified:

    • September — December 1st: Interested applicants can begin to complete and submit the RBSP scholarship application at www.ronbrown.org. Because it is an online application, late applications cannot be accepted.

    • December 1st: Final deadline to submit an application in order to be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program.

    • December — February: Applications are reviewed by the Program staff.

    • Mid-February: Semi-finalists are notified.

    • Late February / Early March: Finalists are notified and invited to participate in a weekend selection process in Washington, D.C. at the expense of the Ron Brown Scholar Program. Finalists are interviewed by members of the RBSP National Selection Committee and are expected to participate in several activities during the weekend. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their application materials, interviews, and participation in weekend activities.

    • By April 15th: Winners in the competition are notified.

Elks Foundation Most Valuable Student

  • Since 1931, the Elks National Foundation has helped students recognize their academic dreams. Each year, we award more than $3 million in college scholarships to at least 850 outstanding, service-minded high school seniors. Once you're an Elks scholar, you're family.

  • Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

    • You must be a current high school senior. High school graduates are not eligible.

    • You must be a citizen of the United States on the date your application is submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.

    Note: You do not have to be a member (or the dependent of a member) of the Elks to qualify.

    • The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2025 competition.

    • Male and female students compete separately.

    • Ranging from $1,000 per year to $7,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.

  • The application deadline for the 2025 contest is November 12, 2024 at 11:59 p.m., PST.

Equitable Excellence Scholarship Program

  • Equitable Foundation has established the Equitable Excellence Scholarship® Program program to assist high school seniors and current undergraduates who are planning to continue their education at a two- or four-year college in the United States by Fall 2025.

    This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. In compliance with Federal law, this program will not discriminate in the terms, conditions, or privileges of participation on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, or sexual orientation.

  • Applicants to the Equitable Excellence Scholarship® Program Scholarship Program must:

    • Be current high school seniors and current undergraduates in one of the 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.

    • Demonstrate ambition and self-drive to be a force for good in your community by encouraging others to pursue higher education.

    • Be willing to provide a release to publicize their identities and information about their achievements along with photographs for use in program promotion and information.

    • Have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

  • The authorized distribution for new awards is up to $500,000. Up to 100 renewable awards of $5,000 each will be granted.

    • $5,000 awards are renewable up to four years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and continued enrollment, and

    • $500 gift card will be provided to each recipients’ teacher of choice who has had an impact on their school journey.

    Sponsor will require recipients to attend at least 4 professional development workshops during their 4 years in college/during their renewable scholarship timeline (1 session per year).

    Awards are for undergraduate study only. Enrollment at an accredited postsecondary institution outside of the United States may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Brush Fishkin Scholarship Fund

  • The Bruce Fishkin Scholarship Fund is in search of standouts.

    Formed in 2010, the Fund will award up to the entire cost of a college education for those outstanding students we believe most deserve an investment of our time and money.

    We are in search of high school students in their senior year who seek to challenge themselves to succeed and accomplish what most people never imagine. Selection is based upon application essays, followed by personal interviews.

    We seek students who place a premium on higher education. If you have always known deep inside that given the chance, you'd achieve greatness, well, here is that chance.

    The Board anticipates awarding up to six scholarships annually to students that either reside or attend high school in any one of the following areas: Fairfield, Greens Farms, Redding and Westport, Connecticut and the cities and surrounding suburbs of Chicago, Illinois and Las Vegas, Nevada.

    This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.     3. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the high school you are currently attending, or the equivalent thereof in cases where the applicable high school does not employ a traditional 4.0 system.

    4. Must have taken either the ACT or SAT test and achieved a minimum ACT score of 22 OR a minimum SAT score of 1100.

    5. Plan on attending an accredited college or university for a Bachelor’s degree or four-year program in the United States.

    6. Have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

    • The scholarships are awarded in various amounts, up to $50,000 per year. The scholarship can be used for up to 8 semesters for undergraduate education. Funding can be used to pay for tuition, room and board, books, supplies and equipment that are required based on your course syllabus.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

  • HSF empowers students and parents with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete a higher education, while providing support services and scholarships to as many exceptional students, HSF Scholars and Alumni as possible.

  • Eligibility Requirements

    • The HSF Scholar Program is open to students of all races that identify as being of Hispanic Heritage.

    • U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, or DACA 

    • Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students; minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for college and graduate students

    • Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, public or not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, in the US, for the 2025-2026 academic year

    • Submit the FAFSA or state-based financial aid forms (if applicable)

  • Award

    Scholars are selected based on merit. Award amounts range from $500 - $5,000, based on relative need.

Hagan Scholarship Foundation

  • The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, providing recipients with the opportunity to achieve their goals and graduate college debt-free. Free workshops, Free Schwab Brokerage Accounts, and Free Study Abroad provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum. Hagan Scholars have attended 637 colleges and universities located in 49 states and the District of Columbia and have studied abroad in 58 countries.

  • High School Eligibility Requirements
    1. Must attend a high school located in the United States.
    2. All high school students eligible regardless of nationality.
    3. Must be fluent in the English language.
    4. Must be in the high school graduating class.
    5. Must have achieved an unweighted 3.50 CGPA based on a 4.0 Grading Scale.
    6. Must enroll in an eligible four-year College or University the first fall semester following high school graduation.
    7. The scholarship cannot be used to attend a community college, junior college, or online institution.
    8. Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule, or complete the equivalent of a four year degree if in a professional program.
    9. Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2026 until September 1, 2026.  Work must be regularly scheduled employment performed under supervision for compensation. Employment can be full-time or part-time.
    10. Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2024 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000. “Household Income” is defined as the total income received by all adult members of a household living under the same roof.
    11. Applicants are not required to provide FAFSA information. Finalists must provide the FAFSA Summary showing the SAI.
    12. Must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible.

    Graduate Eligibility Requirements
    1. Must be a first-time graduate student enrolling in the Fall26 semester. Not for current graduate students.
    2. Must not hold U.S. citizenship.
    3. Must not be over 24 years of age as of the Submittal Deadline March 15, 2026.
    4. Must have been awarded or will be awarded by the upcoming Fall26 semester an undergraduate degree from a foreign institution.
    5. Must provide a complete copy of applicant’s Transcript showing the Award Degree with the application or Fall26 semester enrollment.
    6. Must have received an acceptance letter for enrollment for the upcoming Fall26 semester from a college or university located in the U.S.
    7. Must be fluent in the English language and must provide a copy of applicant’s English proficiency test results, or confirmation from the institution of English proficiency.
    8. Must provide a Graduation Plan prepared by the institution and approved by the Department Chair.
    9. Must contribute toward the cost of applicant’s education by working 240 hours from January 1 to September 1, prior to the start of the fall semester each academic year. Employment and/or paid internships must be performed under supervision for compensation. Work can be full-time or part-time.
    10. Must provide a copy of the parents Financial Statement.

  • The Hagan Scholarship provides $2,000 to help purchase essential items for college, up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters, workshops to learn important life skills not typically covered in the college curriculum, HSF Schwab Brokerage Account to manage to learn how to invest, and up to $8,000 to study and travel abroad.

  • High School Scholarship:

    • Be enrolled full time as a high school junior in the United States

    • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States immediately after high school graduation (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)

    • Demonstrate financial need ($65,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)

    • Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities

    • Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity

    • Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0

    • Be a United States citizen
